Topic orientation
Loans problems connect level-payment annuities with outstanding balances, amortization schedules, refinancing, sinking funds, and principal-interest splits. The balance at a given time is the value at that time of the obligation that remains.
A reliable solution computes a balance prospectively from remaining payments and checks it retrospectively from accumulated principal and payments. The BA II Plus TVM worksheet is useful only after deciding whether the requested balance is immediately before or after a payment.
